I Love the Whole World

Brilliant sing-a-long produced by Discovery Channel. Every time I hear it I am brought back to the astronauts looking at space from above.

It is said that when astronauts look back at Earth they experience something called the Overview Effect. A feeling they feel buzzing through their every cell, a feeling of connection to every living thing. I feel jealous that I can’t float out there and feel that feeling.

However if I just think about it, and focus on it, I think I already do feel it. Good shivers?

What is a moment?

Words cannot describe the experience of this film.

All I can say is stick with it and you won’t regret it.

Visual Music :

So sit back have a drink and watch some music.

I don’t know when I first saw this video but it definitely gave me the shivers.

I feel really drawn to music. I appreciate the music of this piece in a whole new way. Because I can see the textures and the patterns.

The Thought of You

If you’ve ever performed with someone you love this piece is especially touching.

There is a certain feeling that can fill your chest when you see them come fully alive, when they have no one judging them, nothing holding them back.

Ryan Woodward definitely doesn’t hold anything back in this figurative animation which was, appropriately enough, choreographed by his wife…and while she was pregnant.

If you’re really into it you can watch the making of, I recommend it.

I Met the Walrus

A visual re-creation of an interview from 1969, where a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced him to do an interview.

This piece shows how powerful words can be. All the animators had for reference were John Lennon’s words and they took this simple hotel conversation and mographed it into a epic monologue.

Matta - Unleash the Freq

A beautiful and sleek use of motion tracking that draws a line between the seeming chaos of nature with the rigidness of mathematics.

And it goes really well with the music.

The Half-Glass Full Approach

This motion graphics piece uses the visual analogy of a child to integrate the message of one.org with its most beneficial counterpart: a child.

I was turned off in the beginning by the “FAMINE, 30,000 children starve.”

But they switched it up, paralleling my feeling of “how about something you haven’t heard.” BOOM! I was back in and I watched until the end.

This piece engages me visually and in turn activates me to support one.org.

Thank you FutureDeluxe for giving us all something to aspire to.

Vision for the Future

I was extremely impressed by the color scheme, the unique 3D space and the flow of this video. As a designer it tweaks me tinglers.

I personally think this video speaks to me. I am a visionary. Its really the activity that occupies most of my life. I see visions of alternative ways of living, of cooperative human systems, of short films that tell funny stories, etc… And one of the things that sparks my visions is observing.

When someone observed the trees blowing they were inspired with a thought of generating power using the wind. When someone observed the rain falling they were inspired to capture that water for later use. When someone observes an ironically hilarious moment they were inspired to write it down and publish it so others could laugh.

Our inspiration comes from our observations of the world around us.

I believe that Congress considering the cancellation of the James Webb telescope is a sign of our times. A sign that we have let our immediate needs of putting out fires (or the corporate war machine) to allow our visions of the future to be compromised.

The New Media Revolution

This video depicts a future created by collective action. It educates, engages and inspires.

When I first watched this video I loved it. The second time I watched it I really listened to it. This video was created by 24 different animators from around the world, an example of collective effort even in its own creation.

I feel a real sense of mass consciousness because I feel it taps into a dream of mine and many others to use the internet to make a world where we can create the life we want by sharing practical knowledge and connecting like-minded individuals to take collective action.

WikiLeaks is the first thing that comes to mind. Using the open source mentality of Wikipedia, this organization has spread eye-opening documents without government interference to the entire world and in direct response started an Enlightenment-esque revolution in the Middle East.

Imagine applying this open source paradigm to taxes. You only pay for the collective programs you support. You can un-check the box that sends 60% of your income tax to the Military. Eh?

What is Originality?

Ever since I was young I have thought about the concept of “original.” It came up for me when I tried to explain to someone how to draw a picture of a monster.

Well, draw something you’ve never seen before….hm…no, draw something that is ugly but also that you’ve never seen before. A animal, well not animal, a creature or thing, let me see the pencil…

My monster turned out to be a Duck-Bird-Bulldog-with-the-neck-of-a-giraffe. This day I questioned what original was.
